The “Training Programme on Economic Corridor Development and Interconnectivity Cooperation” , hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and jointly organised by Southwest Jiaotong University and the International Business Officials Training Institute of the Ministry of Commerce, was undertaken by Nanning University's Development Planning and Cooperation Office, the College of Traffic and Transportation, and the Guangxi China-ASEAN Comprehensive Transportation International Joint Key Laboratory. The programme featured thematic seminars and field studies at Nanning University. A total of 27 government officials and transport professionals from seven countries, including Kenya, Brazil, and South Africa, gathered to explore new pathways for regional connectivity through focused discussions and on-site learning activities.

On the morning of 16th September, the programme commenced its thematic exchange in Room 202 of Nanning University's Activity Centre, leveraging the training initiative to deepen transport technology collaboration between China and neighbouring countries. Professor Wen Xuguang, Director of the Guangxi China-ASEAN Comprehensive Transport International Joint Key Laboratory, delivered an opening address, extending a warm welcome to participants from different countries. Professor Fan Yi, Party Secretary and Dean of the College of Traffic and Transportation at Nanning University, highlighted Guangxi's strategic advantage as China's frontier for opening up to ASEAN and the significance of this programme in advancing regional economic corridor development.

Following the opening session, Professor Pang Yanzhi, Deputy Dean of the College of Traffic and Transportation, delivered a lecture titled “Frontier Technologies in Urban Rail Transit”, analysing innovative trends in urban rail development. Professor Chen Jianqiu, Deputy Director of the Guangxi China-ASEAN International Joint Key Laboratory of Integrated Transportation, presented on “The “Brain’ of China's High-Speed Rail: China's Train Control System”, providing an in-depth introduction to core breakthroughs in China's high-speed rail technology and offering participants both cutting-edge and practical insights.

In the afternoon, participants visited the Guangxi China-ASEAN International Joint Key Laboratory of Integrated Transportation for an on-site tour. Guided by lecturers Shang Jie and Chen Jialiang, they experienced simulated train driving, immersing themselves in advanced rail transit applications and gaining first-hand experience of metro train operations. At the train dispatch sand table, trainees learned about key processes such as train operation control and dispatch management. Through close observation and interaction, participants developed a more intuitive and profound understanding of the practical applications of China's rail transit technologies.

Through its innovative “theory + practice” model, the training programme established a pragmatic and efficient exchange platform for participating countries. The initiative not only showed China's substantial achievements in transport technology but also significantly enhanced international technical cooperation and knowledge sharing. It further reinforced Nanning's pivotal role as a regional economic corridor hub, injecting robust momentum into coordinated regional economic development.

The successful hosting of this programme has opened new avenues for international exchange and cooperation at Nanning University, enriched the university’s teaching and research case resources, raised its global visibility within the transport sector, and created valuable opportunities for cultivating interdisciplinary talents with international perspectives and strong cross-cultural communication skills.
