Overview
The "ASEAN Cross-border E-commerce Industry Research Institute" of Nanning University is a high-end think tank and innovation platform dedicated to promoting the development of the China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce industry. The institute was established in November 2022, which is Nanning University relies on the Faculty of Business, former Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, Faculty of Information Engineering, Faculty of General Studies and other advantageous disciplines, around the needs of China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce industry development, focusing on China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce industry research high-end think tank.
The Institute mainly carries out research and consulting work in the field of China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce related to applied research, policy research, technology research, etc. It provides support to the government and enterprises in the areas of social services such as the selection of China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce platforms, operation, legal consulting, etc., policy research, personnel training, etc., and organizes related academic seminars, training, forums and other academic activities. At the same time, the Institute also actively promotes cooperation among industries, universities and research institutes, builds a platform for exchanges and cooperation among government, enterprises and academics, and builds up cooperative relationships with famous enterprises and universities at home and abroad.
The establishment of the Institute is conducive to enhancing the academic influence of Nanning University in the field of China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce, promoting cooperation and exchanges between China and ASEAN countries in the field of cross-border e-commerce, fostering the in-depth development of China-ASEAN economic co-operation, and making positive contributions to the construction of the China-ASEAN economic community.

Key scientific questions
The key scientific question to be addressed by the Institute is how to improve the revenue and efficiency of local supply chain enterprises selling to ASEAN countries through cross-border e-commerce.
The above problem can be broken down into three sub-problems:
1.macro question: what are the RCEP, ASEAN countries and local laws, regulations and standards that are conducive for local supply chain products to be sold externally by means of cross-border e-commerce?
2.micro-question 1: the problem of adapting standards and regulations related to cross-border e-commerce inside the local industrial or agricultural supply chain enterprises.
3.micro- question 2: the optimization of efficiency and revenue enhancement of local supply chain products sold externally through cross-border e-commerce.
Field, direction and content
Research Direction 1: Policy Research
The primary focus is on studying relevant laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the development of cross-border e-commerce in ASEAN countries (regions) and domestically. This includes examining the e-commerce development policies, regulations, consumer protection regulations, and cross-border trade facilitation policies in ASEAN countries. Simultaneously, it includes researching Chinese policies and regulations related to cross-border e-commerce, such as the E-commerce Law, Consumer Rights Protection Law, and Interim Measures for the Administration of Cross-border Trade in E-commerce. Through comparative policy analysis, the aim is to identify the relationship between policy implementation and the level of e-commerce development in different countries, assess the impact of policies on cross-border e-commerce development, and provide a theoretical basis and policy recommendations for the formulation of relevant policies in our country.
Research Direction 2: Standards Research
This is mainly to study the relevant standards of ASEAN countries and China related to the cross-border e-commerce field. Such as e-payment standards, mobile payment standards, e-invoice standards, commodity barcode and electronic labeling standards, and information security standards for e-commerce websites. Through comparative analysis of standards, to find out the technical barriers caused by differences in standards, to study the applicability of different standards in cross-border e-commerce, and provide a theoretical basis for promoting the integration of cross-border e-commerce standards.
Research Direction 3: Technology Research
This part mainly researches the information technology, logistics technology, and payment technology that support the development of cross-border e-commerce. For example, cross-border e-commerce website platform technology, big data technology, cloud computing technology, blockchain technology, unmanned warehousing technology, supply chain management system technology, cross-border e-commerce payment system technology and so on. Through the research on the use of technology to analyze the role of different technologies in the realization of cross-border e-commerce information flow, logistics, and capital flow mechanism, research on the potential of new technologies in the field of cross-border e-commerce, to explore the key factors affecting technology in cross-border e-commerce innovation and development, and to provide theoretical guidance for the enterprise cross-border e-commerce technological innovation.
The above three research directions analyze the development environment of cross-border e-commerce from the policy, standard and technical levels, complement each other, and comprehensively and systematically study the internal and external development factors in the field of cross-border e-commerce, so as to provide a foothold and development strategy for cross-border e-commerce enterprises in China. The research process can also be based on the need to select a direction for in-depth, or a combination of multiple directions to carry out research, in order to achieve the best research results.
Key Personnel Profile
WANG Tao, Ph.D. Major field: China-ASEAN cross-border e-commerce and logistics management.
Dean of Business Faculty, Nanning University. Supervisor of master's degree in international trade, Guangxi University. Supervisor of master’s degree in business administration and international business. Peer reviewer for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a communication evaluator for the key research base in humanities and social sciences under the Ministry of Education, and the Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Economic Management Professional Committee of the Guangxi Higher Education Association. He has held various positions, including Executive Director of the E-commerce Professional Committee of the China Information Economics Society, Director of the Guangxi System Engineering Society, and Director of the Guangxi Quantitative Economics Society.
He has presided over 1 National Natural Science Foundation and 6 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and 5 provincial and ministerial education reform projects. He has won 1 second prize and 3 third prizes of provincial and ministerial-level scientific research, 1 first prize, 2 second prizes and 2 third prizes of provincial and ministerial-level teaching achievements. She has edited or participated in the editing of 4 monographs. She has published 11 papers in CSSCI or core journals.

Social Service Activities
1.Holding public lectures on cross-border e-commerce
Invite experts and scholars in related fields to popularize the basic knowledge, market status and development trend of cross-border e-commerce for the general public, to enhance the public's awareness and understanding of cross-border e-commerce, and to increase their confidence and interest in cross-border e-commerce.
2.Organize cross-border e-commerce training courses
To organize different forms of cross-border e-commerce training courses for different groups of people (e.g., entrepreneurs, SME owners, university students, etc.), and to enhance the practical cross-border e-commerce ability and market competitiveness of the trainees through professional curricula and hands-on practice, so as to provide them with strong support for their career development and employment and entrepreneurship.
3.Conduct cross-border e-commerce advisory services
Set up a cross-border e-commerce consulting window or platform to provide online or offline cross-border e-commerce consulting services for the public and enterprises to help them solve the problems and difficulties encountered in the cross-border e-commerce business and improve the efficiency and quality of cross-border e-commerce business. It can also provide consultancy services such as research reports, market research reports and technology demand research reports for cross-border e-commerce businesses.
4.Provide planning and advice
Provide cross-border e-commerce development planning and policy suggestions for relevant government departments to promote the development of cross-border e-commerce industry.
4.Conduct research on cross-border e-commerce-related topics
Provide technical support and theoretical basis for enterprises and research institutions.
Academic Exchange Activities
1.Holding Academic Symposium on Cross-border E-commerce
Invite famous scholars, entrepreneurs and government officials at home and abroad to have in-depth discussions and exchanges on market trends, policies and regulations, technological innovation and risk management of cross-border e-commerce, so as to share resources and complement each other's strengths, promote academic research and practical innovation in the field of cross-border e-commerce, and promote the healthy development of cross-border e-commerce industry.
2.Publishing academic papers and research results on cross-border e-commerce
Organize scholars and researchers in the field of cross-border e-commerce to carry out relevant academic research and practical exploration, and write high-level academic papers and research results, and publish them in domestic and international academic journals and conferences, so as to improve the academic influence and popularity of the Institute.
3.Conducting the construction of the cross-border e-commerce innovation laboratory
Establish a cross-border e-commerce innovation laboratory, introduce advanced research equipment and technology platforms, provide strong support and guarantee for academic research and practical innovation, and promote technological innovation and application development in the field of cross-border e-commerce. At the same time, it can also cooperate with enterprises and government departments to carry out relevant technology transfer and results transformation, providing impetus and support for industrial innovation and upgrading.
4.Publishing research results, academic monographs and research reports
Publish research results in international and domestic academic journals or conferences, promote academic accumulation and exchange in related fields, and improve the academic influence of the Institute.
