Vice President Gong Ji Led Delegation to Malaysian Universities to Strengthen Ties and Cooperation

From November 25 to 29, Gong Ji, Vice President of Nanning University(UNN), led a six-member delegation to visit Malaysian universities within the UNN-ASEAN University Neighbor Partners Alliance, aiming to enhance cooperation in talent development, student exchanges, and faculty growth. Representatives from College of Architecture and Civil Engineering, College of Business, College of Artificial Intelligence and Software, College of Digital Economics, College of Art and Design, College of Food and Quality Engineering, and the Office of Development Planning and Cooperation and Exchange joined the delegation on the visit.


On November 26, the delegation visited Universiti Malaya (UM), Putra Business School (PBS), and Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL). In the morning, Gong Ji and the UNN delegation visited UM, where they discussed with 10 representatives, including Dr. Yvonne, the Associate Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement), Dr. Ahmad, Dean of the Faculty of Education. Gong Ji briefed UM on the situations of UNN, and both sides had in-depth discussions on talent recruitment, joint curriculum development, academic cooperation, and faculty and student exchanges. Dr. Kenny, a senior professor at the Faculty of Education, UM, has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at College of Digital Economics, UNN.

The second place the UNN delegation went to was PBS, one of members of UNN-ASEAN UNIVERSITY NEIGHBOR PARTNERS ALLIANCE, which came to UNN in June 2024 to establish the “UNN-PBS MBA Center”. The delegation had a discussion with Ms. Siti, Director Marketing & Corporate Communications and other representatives of PBS on the specific cooperation of the MBA Center.

On the afternoon of November 26, the UNN delegation visited to IUKL. IUKL has cooperated with UNN in master’s degree programs and student exchange programs during a series of mutual visits. Dr. Chen Zhihui, Vice President of IUKL, and other representatives discussed with UNN delegation. Both sides believed that in-depth cooperation could be carried out in the fields of architecture and civil engineering, and artificial intelligence. Chen Zhihui agreed to be hired as Distinguished Professor at College of Artificial Intelligence and Software of UNN and signed Nanning University Flexible Recruitment of High-Level Talent Service Contract. And both sides agreed to keep strengthening mutual visits between teachers and students, and signed Collaborative Agreement for China Study Tour Programme.

On the same day, three deans of College of Architecture and Civil Engineering, College of Digital Economics, College of Business, and the vice dean of College of Art and Design, respectively, formed two teams to visit enterprises that have already carried out university-enterprise cooperation with UNN, which are IKRAM Works Sdn Bhd and Yan Zhi Li Fang Malaysia Branch, so as to explore the new mode of university-enterprise cooperation facing ASEAN.

On November 27, the UNN delegation visited Multimedia University (MMU) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), two member universities of UNN-ASEAN UNIVERSITY NEIGHBOR PARTNERS ALLIANCE. In the morning, the UNN delegation was sincerely received by Dr. Mazliham, President of MMU. Representatives of both sides discussed the student exchange programs that have been carried out, and had in-depth discussions on undergraduate and master’s joint cultivation programs, doctoral recruitment, and scientific research cooperation. At the meeting, Dr. Ong Duu Sheng, a senior professor in the field of materials at MMU, agreed to be hired as a Distinguished Professor at College of Traffic and Transportation, and signed Nanning University Flexible Recruitment of High-Level Talent Service Contract.

On the afternoon of November 27, the delegation visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus, where 11 representatives of UTAR, including Dr. Faidz, Vice President of UTAR, attended the offline meeting and 3 representatives participated online. Representatives of the two universities had an in-depth discussion on various aspects, such as student exchanges, master’s degree program, MOOC co-construction in the field of food and quality engineering, brain gain, and reached a preliminary consensus on the future forms of student exchange from UTAR to UNN and master’s degree program. At the end of the meeting, both sides signed Memorandum of Agreement Collaboration in Postgraduate Academic Development Program.

On November 28, the delegation visited Universiti Teknologi Malaysia(UTM) and toured Faculty of Civil Engineering, Innovation and Commercialisation Centre. Gong Ji introduced the situation of UNN. Representatives of both universities discussed the introduction of high-level talents, master’s degree programs, co-creation of civil engineering research platforms, and joint training of undergraduates and masters. They also reached a consensus on promoting the signing of a memorandum of understanding and a master’s degree program agreement between both sides.

During the visit, Gong Ji, on behalf of UNN, showed concern for UNN students who were studying and exchanging at UPM, IUKL, MMU and UTAR. Gong Ji encouraged the students to cherish and seize the opportunity of studying abroad with full scholarship support from UNN, actively integrate into local study and life, broaden horizons and improve competitiveness.

The visit of the UNN delegation to Malaysia not only consolidated the friendly and cooperative relations with universities of UNN-ASEAN UNIVERSITY NEIGHBOR PARTNERS ALLIANCE, but also made new partners and reached consensus on a series of cooperation projects. This marked a solid step forward for UNN in international exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN. In the future, UNN will steadily advance the implementation of cooperation projects and promote the internationalization of education.
