On the morning of September 9, the opening ceremony for the 2024 freshmen of Nanning University was held at the school’s track and field. President Li Dongxue, Party Secretary of Nanning University Liu Biao, Deputy Party Secretary of Nanning University and Vice President Wei Yuegui, Vice President Chen Xiongzhang, Li Taoshen, Wang Ningzhang, Gong Ji, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection Cao Wenjun attended the ceremony. Also presented at the ceremony were Party and administration leaders of all units (departments) and colleges, Section Chief of Student Affairs, counselors of freshmen classes and all freshmen of 2024.
Deputy Party Secretary Wei Yuegui began the opening ceremony by extending, on behalf of the leadership team and also faculty and students of Nanning University, a warm welcome and hearty greetings to all freshmen. Warmly congratulated them on their new journey at Nanning University.
Li Meiyi, in Class 3, Grade 2024, Economics and Finance major, College of Digital Economics, spoke as a representative of freshmen. She encouraged all freshmen to study hard, learn from others, and innovate. Coinciding with the 40th Teachers’ Day, she extended her best wishes to the faculty.
Dr. Wang Yumei, from College of Architecture and Civil Engineering, spoke as a faculty representative. She stressed that luck need to be created through hard work, supporters should be kept in mind, and the foundation of realizing dreams is a strong body. She wished all students to live with optimism, perseverance, tolerance and a healthy lifestyle.
Li Hongyan, one of the first resident senior lecturers from Huawei at Modern Industry College of Digital Technology, spoke as another faculty representative. She said that Huawei will continue to deepen cooperation between Nanning University and businesses in various aspects, improve the diversified school system, and comprehensively move forward with collaborative education, including resource sharing, technological innovation, internship and employment. In addition, she gave the freshmen advice on study arrangements, vocation planning and living habits.
At the opening ceremony, President Li Dongxue taught the first lesson of the semester to the freshmen of 2024 with the theme of “rain or shine, forge ahead with enterprise and fortitude in a new journey”, and put forward four hopes for freshmen as following:
First, to close to the society, know the complexity of the world, and shoulder the responsibility that “the rise and fall of all under heaven is the responsibility of every individual.”Nanning University has always insisted on open education, established close university-enterprise cooperation with 195 enterprises such as Huawei and China Hi-Tech Group Co.,Ltd., and established cooperative relations with nearly 60 domestic and foreign universities such as Guangxi University and Universiti Putra Malaysia. Bugu Alliance of Application-oriented Universities with the participation of 10 domestic universities and Neighbor Partners Alliance Among UNN-ASEAN Universities with the participation of 7 ASEAN universities have been established. In addition, Nanning University has also carried out exchange student programs, postgraduate training projects. A series of measures have built broad platforms and good roads for students’ growth and success. The world is undergoing momentous changes unseen in a century. It is important to develop the ideal of communism and consolidate the shared ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics among young people. Second, to close to knowledge, know the erudition of knowledge, carry forward the diligence that “there is no royal road to learning”. Nanning University is rich in reading and learning resources, the library has more than 1.66 million paper books and 2.46 million e-books. Every year on April 23, “World Reading Day”, the school holds the launch ceremony of reading activities in the library, all the faculty and students enjoy them together. Students should “love to read, read good books”, and arrange more time to go to the library. Enjoy the pleasure of reading that “a book holds a house of gold” and form the temperament that “one who is filled with knowledge always behaves in elegance”.
Third, to close to science and technology, know the power of it, and foster a trend of “promoting science and technology”. Nanning University has cooperated with Huawei to build Modern Industry College of Digital Technology. Five Huawei training rooms have been built during the summer vacation, four of which are named Kunpeng, Ascend, Harmony, Big Data respectively, and six Huawei engineers have been introduced to teach on campus. It is committed to upgrading new engineering majors, empowering traditional majors and new liberal arts majors, and promoting students' internships and employment in Huawei and its ecological enterprises. With the new round of technological revolution, the rise of artificial intelligence technology has brought unprecedented opportunities and challenges to our working life. Students should endeavor to master new technologies and use them scientifically.
Fourth, to close to sports, know the benefits of physical fitness, forge the perseverance of “straining the muscles and bones of its body”. Nanning University has a strong sports atmosphere, with complete stadiums and facilities. Students should hold the concept of health first, exercise diligently, regular work and rest, less in the dormitory, more on the field. Develop the habit of exercising, cultivate a sports hobby, and root the spirit of never give up, never get discouraged, and struggle relentlessly in sports.
