Introduction

The Visual Communication Design program at Nanning University started admitting students in 2018 and currently has approximately 500 enrolled students with 19 full-time teachers. The program aims to cultivate students with "modern craftsmanship" and foster their abilities in communication, creativity, design, and production. In terms of teaching, it utilizes the platform of the Art Master Studio Group and Collaborative Innovation Base. It adopts a "project-oriented" and "task-driven" teaching approach, integrating innovation and entrepreneurship education into the entire process of talent development. This provides students with new learning and practical experience.


Cultivation Objectives

This program aims to cultivate students who uphold the party's basic line, adapt to social and economic development needs, and achieve comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor skills. Students will acquire a solid foundation in the basic theories and fundamental methods of modern visual communication design, as well as the necessary knowledge, practical skills, design thinking, expression, communication, and management skills in the field. They will possess the ability to apply their knowledge and skills to professional learning and project practices, with a solid professional knowledge base, advanced aesthetic judgment, a practical craftsman spirit, strong practical abilities, and innovative thinking. Graduates will be well-prepared to work in graphic design, film and television media, and cultural and creative industries, and engage in visual communication design, creative planning, and production as highly qualified and applied professionals.


Teaching Staff

There are one professor, three associate professors, one senior arts and crafts master, and three lecturers in this program. Over 90% of the full-time teachers have a master's degree or higher education, and one teacher is currently pursuing a doctoral degree. The teachers possess extensive teaching experience, practical experience, and industry resources. They have memberships in the Guangxi Artists Association, previous roles as art editors, directors in Guangxi TV Station, and contracts as painters with the publicity department of the Guangxi Party Committee.


Characteristics

1. Deeply integrating professional education with innovation and entrepreneurship education to cultivate highly qualified applied talents with strong practical abilities and innovative spirit:

Firstly, establishing a platform for school-enterprise cooperation and serving society: Introduce real-life projects from enterprises into the classroom, with the art design requirements being set by the project leaders from the industry. Guiding teachers will provide specific instructions, strengthening practical guidance and training. By closely linking students' classroom learning with commercial art creation activities, students' interest in learning will be enhanced, and their participation and awareness of innovation and creative abilities will be stimulated.


Secondly, establishing a talent cultivation model that emphasizes competitions: Integrate competitions such as the China International "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National College Student Advertising Art Competition, and the Nanning University Science, Technology, and Cultural Arts Festival into the classroom. According to the artistic creation requirements of these competitions, guiding teachers will coach students to participate, deepening their application skills, integrating innovation, and cultivating an innovative spirit while enhancing their practical abilities.


2. Efforts are being made to construct a team of renowned teachers and dual teacher teaching teams, creating an advantage in teaching resources:

Currently, a core team of teachers has been established to meet the needs of applied talent development. Accomplished artists and professors have been invited as academic leaders through contracts with the Publicity Department of the Autonomous Region's Party Committee. By leveraging the Master Studio Group of Nanning University and the Image Laboratory of the Faculty of Art and Design, a curriculum system and teaching plan that aligns with these resources have been established. The main focus of the learning content is a combination of "knowledge + skills", forming the entire teaching system. Theoretical knowledge is integrated with practical application, aligning the content of talent development with the demands of industry positions. Throughout the teaching process, the pragmatic spirit of modern craftsmanship is emphasized.


Teaching and Research Achievements

The teaching team has achieved rich research outcomes: they were awarded the first prize in the Guangxi Higher Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Teaching Achievement Award. They also received the second prize in the Humanities and Social Sciences group at the 2nd Guangxi Young Teachers' Teaching Competition, the first prize at the 11th Applied Course Construction Large Classroom Teaching Demonstration, and the second prize at the 16th Guangxi Higher Education Teaching Software Application Competition. Their artistic work, "Blossom of Freedom," won the gold prize at the "Shenzhen · Golden Phoenix" Innovative Design Competition for Crafts.


Talent Development

The development of students' design skills, self-learning abilities, and innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities has shown initial success and has been recognized by various sectors of society. In the China International "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, students won two national-level silver awards, four bronze awards, and 10 gold awards in the Guangxi division. Additionally, in the National College Student Advertising Art Competition, they received 1 national-level first prize, 2 second prizes, and 7 third prizes.
