From July 12 to 13, the Final of 2024 Overseas Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project Competition hosted by China Association for Science and Technology and Release Ceremony of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project List were held in Nanning. The competition has set up five tracks, including Life and Health, Green and Low Carbon, Digital Economy, Advance Manufacturing, Future Industry and Cultural Creativity, and set up 14 divisions in Asia, Europe, North America, South America and other regions with strong innovation capacity, and has collected 2,032 science and innovation projects from 50 countries (regions) around the world. After the selection in each division, a total of 136 outstanding projects from 24 countries (regions) were qualified to participate in the final competition. After the competition, 50 innovation and entrepreneurship projects will be selected. The Advance Manufacturing project “Tunnel Seamless - Pioneer of Efficient and Safe Reinforcement and Repair Solution for Tunnel Tubes”, headed by Chen Jialiang, a talented returnee, made it to the list of finalists. The project is jointly established by Guangxi Key Laboratory of International Join for China-ASEAN Comprehensive Transportation(“Key Laboratory”) and College of Traffic and Transportation of Nanning University.

Nanning University’s project utilized high-strength alloy component development and assembly composite construction technology, which was researched and proposed by the “Key Laboratory”. The technology can provide efficient and safe technical guarantee for solving the problem of tubular sheets in railway tunnels, and promote the development of new quality productive forces in China and ASEAN regional rail transportation industry, with broad industrialization prospects.

The finals took the form of “project roadshow and on-site defense”, and the competition time of each project was divided into 8-minute project roadshow and 7-minute question-and-answer session with the judges. Director Wen Xuguang conducted the roadshow and defense on behalf of the team of Nanning University. After intense competition, Nanning University’s project was finally selected from the 30 final projects in the Advance Manufacturing group as one of the 10 projects on the list of the final competition in this group, and was announced in Release Ceremony of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project List of 2024 Overseas Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project Competition on the morning of the 13th.

Key Laboratory has gained both honor and experience in the international competition. It will continue to deepen the scientific research cooperation, establish more projects to participate in competitions at home and abroad. Members of College of Traffic and Transportation and Key Laboratory project team will also take part in the follow-up docking and cooperation work to better serve the development of science and technology and economic integration in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, cultivate the development of new dynamics and new advantages, and promote the growth of talents and new quality productive forces.
